There are three waterholes in the Mount Leibig area, and three at Kintore. The background pattern of dots represents the sand dunes and stony ridges in these areas. The dots on the aboriginal dot painting resemble the small clumps of spinifex grass I saw from the height of Ayers Rock.

When the snakes in the dot painting started bothering me, I went to Walmart for a small jar of art paint. I colored over the eyes. The snake was now asleep. The sting removed.

Why had I chosen it? I liked this one because of its simplicity. The order of the lines. But still it was snakes on the wall.

I can interpret Dreamtime when snakes fell from the sky in that old expulsion from heaven. How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground—Isaiah 14:12. Sometimes scripture swirls around me like a dust storm.

Dreamtime is change.

A move from California. A time to force order on disorder. A time to unpack. I discover a broken leg on my aunt’s linen chest. My small collection of license plates is missing. BLZ from Minnesota. WIZ from Kansas. And an old, red Missouri license plate that had been my uncle’s. Gone. Gone. But everything is on a migration trail.
